After applying a metallic layer, porcelain can be heated inductively. The advantages of inductive heating in food distribution are its high efficiency and the ability to heat through insulating layers, such as an insulated tray. Our system allows for individual control of the heat output, enabling easy hot holding operation as well as reheating of dishes during cold distribution. Our concept has been implemented for both single distribution in private settings with table devices (meals on wheels) and group distribution in hospitals and care facilities using distribution carts. The operation ranges from a simple one-button solution for table devices to complex control of carts with multiple time zones, weekday planning, and processing of heating data using PC software. INNOVAT holds a European patent for this solution, which tracks the temperature of the porcelain by utilizing a special physical effect.
